DIOCESI – “Abbiamo vissuto dei bellissimi momenti di preghiera e di meditazione. Grazie alla guida capace e preziosa del nostro vescovo diocesano, Mons. Carlo Bresciani, e al suo paterno consiglio, abbiamo rinnovato le componenti del Consiglio ed eletto la nuova Madre Generale. Chiedo umilmente, a tutti voi lettori, la vostra preghiera, affinché lo Spirito Santo ci guidi sulla retta via in questo nuovo impegno”. È con queste parole che Suor Maria Corazon Sargento, Madre Superiora uscente, riassume i giorni vissuti dalle Sorelle Carmelitane di Santa Teresa d’Avila in compagnia del vescovo Bresciani a Ripatransone, in occasione del rinnovo del loro Consiglio, dopo sei anni di attività.
“Sono grata al Signore per questi sei anni ricchi di esperienze – dichiara Suor Maria Corazon –. Accettai con trepidazione la mia nomina a Superiora Generale di questa piccola Congregazione ed iniziai a prendermene cura sotto questa nuova responsabilità. In realtà l’avevo già scelta ed amata da tempo, questa Congregazione, prima come figlia, in seguito come Vicaria Generale ed infine in quella nuova veste, quando vidi aumentare le responsabilità. In questi lunghi sei anni ho seguito la direzione delle attività che avevamo in corso quotidianamente e gli impegni che il vecchio Consiglio aveva preso. Però, oltre a questo, sentivo in me un grande desiderio di miglioramento, una spinta, che vagheggiavo da tempo, verso una Congregazione che, nei suoi scopi, puntasse ad un’apertura nel tempo, più marcata in rapporto all’evoluzione che si viveva. Qui a Ripatransone il nuovo viene poco accettato dall’ambiente e, con difficoltà, si riesce a cambiare ciò che si è sempre usato fare. Nelle Filippine, nelle nostre due case a Cebu ed a Bohol, invece, l’ambiente è più incline al buon cambiamento e si migliora più facilmente ciò che già si faceva per il bene della popolazione. L’apprezzamento del nostro lavoro di apostolato nelle Filippine ci è stato di aiuto ed incoraggiamento a proseguire”.
Non sono stati anni facili quelli diretti da Suor Maria Corazon Sargento, la quale si è trovata a dover affrontare un terribile tifone nelle Filippine e la pandemia sia in Italia che nel Paese asiatico. “Nelle prove e difficoltà che si sono presentate – prosegue la Madre Generale uscente – ho fatto sempre ricorso alla preghiera e ne ho trovato sollievo. Così pure nelle malattie di alcune consorelle, specie quelle anziane a cui abbiamo dato assistenza fraterna e rimedi opportuni. Ho sperimentato anche lutti in comunità con grande partecipazione. Nonostante tutto, in parrocchia abbiamo offerto il nostro aiuto per la catechesi e la pulizia dei sacri lini. Abbiamo messo a disposizione i nostri locali interni e il cortile per varie circostanze. Le nostre suore non si sono mai tirate indietro a prestare servizi vari ai gruppi ecclesiali. Ora è mia ferma intenzione, nella nuova veste di Madre Vicaria, di collaborare col Nuovo Consiglio per conseguire gli obiettivi che ci prefiggiamo”.
Queste dunque le componenti del Nuovo Consiglio 2023/2029 nominato lo scorso 16 settembre 2023: Suor Maria Corazon Sargento come Vicaria Generale, Suor May Anne Bulfango come Economa, Suor Perly Gajo come Segretaria e Suor Carmela D’Ascanio come Direttrice Spirituale. Nell’occasione è stata eletta anche la nuova Madre Generale dell’Ordine, Suor Grace Pitogo, che attualmente si trova nelle Filippine e presto giungerà in Italia.
“Colgo questa opportunità – conclude Suor Maria Corazon – per ringraziare prima di tutto la mia comunità teresiana per la fiducia accordatami per il servizio di sei anni. È stato un cammino bellissimo, sebbene spesso irto di difficoltà. Ringrazio il nostro caro Vescovo Carlo, i preti amici, i diaconi e i tanti benefattori che si sono dimostrati sempre sensibili ai nostri bisogni. La mia gratitudine va pure ai nostri giovani in Cebu che mi hanno accompagnato in questo cammino nonostante la distanza. Grazie a tutti e gloria a Dio!”.

DIOCESE – “We experienced beautiful moments of prayer and meditation. Thanks to the capable and precious guidance of our diocesan bishop, Mons. Carlo Bresciani, and his paternal advice, we renewed the members of the Council and elected the new Mother General. I ask humbly, to all of you readers, your prayer, so that the Holy Spirit may guide us on the right path in this new commitment”. It is with these words that Sister Maria Corazon Sargento, outgoing Mother Superior, summarizes the days lived by the Carmelite Sisters of Saint Teresa of Avila in the company of Bishop Bresciani in Ripatransone, on the occasion of the renewal of their Council, after six years of activity.
“I am grateful to the Lord for these six years full of experiences – declares Sister Maria Corazon –. I accepted with trepidation my nomination as Superior General of this small Congregation and I began to take care of it under this new responsibility. In reality I had already chosen it and loved it for a long time, this Congregation, first as a daughter, later as Vicar General and finally in that new role, when I saw the responsibilities increased. In these long six years I have followed the direction of the activities that we had every day and the commitments that the Old Council had taken. But, in addition to this, I felt within myself a great desire for improvement, a push, which I had felt for some time, towards a Congregation which, in its purposes, aimed at an opening over time, more marked in relation to the evolution that was experienced. Here in Ripatransone the new is little accepted by the environment and, with difficulty, it is possible to change what has always been done. On the contrary, in the Philippines, in our two houses in Cebu and Bohol, the environment is more inclined to good change and it is easier to improve what has already done for the good of the population. The appreciation of our apostolic work in the Philippines was a help and encouragement to us to continue”.
Those directed by Sister Maria Corazon Sargento were not easy years, so much so that she had to face a terrible typhoon in the Philippines and the pandemic both in Italy and in the Asian Country. “In the trials and difficulties we had– continues the outgoing Mother General – I have always had recourse to prayer and I have found relief. So even in the illnesses of some sisters, especially the elderly ones to whom we have given fraternal assistance and appropriate remedies. I have also experienced some losses in the community with great participation. Despite everything, in the parish we offered our help for catechesis and the cleaning of the sacred linens. We made our internal rooms and courtyard available for various circumstances. Our nuns did not never hold back in providing various services to ecclesial groups. Now it is my firm intention in the new role of Mother Vicar, to collaborate with the New Council to achieve the objectives we set ourselves”.
Therefore these are the members of the New Council 2023/2029 appointed last September 16, 2023: Sister Maria Corazon Sargento as Vicar General, Sister May Anne Bulfango as Bursar, Sister Perly Gajo as Secretary and Sister Carmela D’Ascanio as Spiritual Director. On the occasion, the new Mother General of the Order, Sister Grace Pitogo, who is currently in the Philippines and will soon arrive in Italy, was also elected.
“I take this opportunity – concludes Sister Maria Corazon – to thank first of all my Teresian community for the trust placed in me for six years of service. It has been a beautiful journey, although often fraught with difficulties. I thank our dear Bishop Carlo, the priest friends, the deacons and the many benefactors who have always shown themselves to be sensitive to our needs. My gratitude also goes to our young people in Cebu who accompanied me on this journey, despite the distance. Thanks to everyone and glory to God!”.
